Market Shed for Women Vegetable Vendors in Lamka

As part of the RWUS Women Economic Empowerment Program, the Rural Women Upliftment Society (RWUS) in collaboration with NESEED, has successfully established a market shed for women vegetable vendors who are internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other local women vendors. The market shed is located at Hill Town, Tangzam Road, Lamka.

This initiative provides a safe and stable space for women vendors to earn a regular income without the need to sit on footpaths, exposed to harsh weather conditions like rain and scorching sun. The newly set-up market area allows these women to sell their produce with dignity and comfort.

“Around 72 women are currently selling vegetables and other items in the market area,” said Melody Zote, the project in-charge. She emphasized that this initiative is not only improving their financial stability but also enhancing their quality of life by providing a safer and more structured working environment. The project marks a significant step towards empowering women and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable communities in the region.
